Our testing system employs a state-of-the-art Resistograph Drilling and Recording method that can quickly and easily determine the extent of woodpecker or animal damage, core rot, cracks, and checking throughout the pole, as well as below ground decay. This procedure can facilitate decision making for repairs or pole replacement. It can also be used in live trees.

When is it more beneficial to repair or replace a damaged pole?
The first consideration is how extensive is the damage?
  • The most costly repair is ground rot damage and if damage is involving multiple areas of the pole, repairs cost will increase.
So, you have to consider the price of a new pole and its installation versus the repair cost.
  • You will have to purchase and install a utility pole that meets the industry standards (ACCT).
  • There will be a delivery cost.
  • Typically, you will need to hire another party to install the pole.
  • An inspection maybe required.
What will be involved in removing the old pole?
  • Is this damaged pole an integral part of a structure (i.e. tower, high ropes course)?
  • Can the pole feasibly and safely be cut out and removed?
  • Are there platforms, elements, cables, and guy wires that would need to be removed and reinstalled?

IPOLE-WPK Woodpecker Hole Repair System

Woodpeckers and other animals can drastically damage and shorten the life of your poles. Using a fiberglass expanding polymer called IPOLE-WPK (*read more about the amazing product we source from USA High Ropes Course Repair, LLC), holes are filled and sealed, thus restoring the structural integrity of your pole. This process also deters animals from causing any future damage. It can be used in tree applications too.

*IPOLE-WPK is the woodpecker hole repair system that really works to repair and prevent woodpecker-damaged poles. Power companies in the U.S. and Europe have used this for more than 25 years with great success. The patented electro-static activated polymer creates high-temperature reaction that forces the foam to penetrate through any decay and bonds with the good wood. After curing, it flexes and moves without ever separating from the wood. It prevents future decay, and it's approximately 2-1/2 times stronger than concrete.

Pole Top Rot Repair System

This expanding fiberglass polymer (the only product of its type on the market) combines high temperature (approximately 300°F) expansion and low viscosity, forcing molten epoxy into the porous wood. The heat kills the decay, stopping further deterioration. The resin cap channels water off of the top, preventing further pole rot damage.

Ground Rot Repair System

Replacing poles is very costly and time-consuming, and puts your operations on hold in the process. Our solution to ground rot saves you time, money, and gets you back in business fast.

We use rot-preventing paint and a resin-concrete mix inside of a fiberglass sleeve to seal the pole. This restores the pole's integrity and strength, preventing more pole ground rot.

Woodpecker Deterrent Paint

Woodpecker and pest deterrent paint is a potent combination of all-natural, organic fragrances that are repellent to woodpeckers and most other pest. Controlled tests by the USDA National Wildlife Research Center indicate that this system can reduce woodpecker activity by up to 97 percent.
